NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 20, 1965 vs Chicago Black Hawks at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 3-1 Toronto win.

Walton scored his 1st NHL goal vs Glenn Hall of the Chicago Black Hawks at 14:13 of the 3rd period on November 21, 1965 at Chicago Stadium in a 7-3 Toronto win.

Walton scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Gerry Cheevers and Eddie Johnston of Boston Bruins on November 15, 1967 at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 4-2 Boston win. His 2nd goal was the game winner.

Walton played in 588 regular season NHL games, scoring 201 goals (31 GWG), 247 assists with 357 penalty minutes and 47 NHL playoff games, scoring 14 goals (2 GWG), 10 assists with 45 penalty minutes.

Walton played in the 1968 NHL All-Star Game.

Walton jumped to the World Hockey Association / WHA for the 1973-74 season, playing for the Minnesota Fighting Saints for 3 seasons. He scored a career high 57 goals and 117 points during his 1st WHA season.

Walton played in 211 regular season WHA games, scoring 136 goals, 145 assists with 148 penalty minutes and 23 WHA playoff games, scoring 20 goals, 15 assists with 26 penalty minutes.

Walton played for Team Canada at the 1974 Summit Series.

Walton was a 2010 Inaugural member of the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame.

Mike Walton was inducted into the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
