Watson made his NHL debut with Philadelphia Flyers on February 20, 1973 vs St. Louis Blues at St. Louis Arena in a 5-3 Flyers win.
Watson scored his 1st NHL goal vs Billy Smith of New York Islanders at 4:30 of 2nd period on December 1, 1973 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in a 2-1 Flyers win. His goal was the game winner.
Watson Played in 613 regular season NHL games, scoring 38 goals (5 GWG), 148 assists with 492 penalty minutes and 101 NHL playoff games, scoring 5 goals (1 GWG), 34 assists with 89 penalty minutes.
Watson played in NHL All-Star Games 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980.
Watson was selected to 1976 Canada Cup Team, playing in 2 games before suffering a broken jaw and concussion from a slap shot.
Jim and his brother Joe were together inducted into the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.
Jimmy Watson was inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame in February, 2016.
