Ice skating on Lake Davos began in the mid-1860s when the lake froze over, and the first man-made ice rink in Davos was created in 1869 in the Kurhaus garden.

Larger artificial outdoor ice rinks were built in 1880 and 1892, being used for Bandy games and ice Hockey games as winter sports began to be popular in Davos.
