Owned by Hector "Toe" Blake, who had been the left winger of the famous Montreal Canadiens’ "Punch Line" in the 1940s, along with Maurice Richard and Elmer Lach, winning Stanley Cups in 1944 and 1946. and another 8 Stanley Cups as coach of the Canadiens
An attraction for some patrons was that women were not admitted. Quebec had legislated against men-only taverns in 1979, but had grandfathered those already in existence. Quebec made them completely illegal in 1986.
