Donald William "Dippy" Simmons - Born September 13, 1931 in Port Colborne, Ontario – Died September 24, 2010 was a professional ice Hockey goaltender.

Simmons played junior Hockey with the Galt Rockets, Port Colborne Sailors and St. Catharines Teepees.

Turning pro in 1951, Simmons won 18 games as a rookie with the Eastern Amateur Hockey League / EAHL's Springfield Indians, and the next season had 31 victories, leading the team to a first place finish in the league. Both years Simmons was named to the EAHL second all-star team.

Simmons played one season for the IHL Johnstown Jets in 1953-54, leading them to the Turner Cup finals in 1954, losing 4 games to 2, to the Cincinnati Mohawks.

Simmons rejoined the Springfield Indians, who were back in the AHL for the 1954-55 season, playing there for 2 1/2 seasons.

Simmons made his NHL debut on January 26, 1957 vs the New York Rangers at Boston Garden in a 5-3 Rangers win.

Simmons got his 1st NHL win on January 27, 1957 vs Montreal Canadiens at Boston Garden in 5-2 win, followed by his 1st NHL shutout on January 31 vs Chicago Black Hawks at Boston Garden in a 2-0 Boston win.

Simmons had replaced Terry Sawchuk in the Boston Bruins' goal part way through the season and then helped the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup finals. He helped the team return to the finals the next season and won a personal high 24 games in 1958-59.

Simmons was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Ed Chadwick in 1961 and he was a solid back up to Johnny Bower. In 1962 he won a couple of games in the playoffs while helping the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Simmons played for the Maple Leafs until 1964, and got his name engraved on the Stanley Cup in 1963 and 1964 as the back up goalie to Johnny Bower.

Simmons next played for the Central Professional Hockey League / CPHL's Tulsa Oilers in 1964-65, and responded with 35 wins, but lost in the finals of the league championship.

The New York Rangers picked up Simmons in the Intra-League Draft in June 1965, playing 12 games for them before he was sent to the Western Hockey League / WHL Vancouver Canucks, where he and led the WHL in wins with the Canucks in 1966-67.

Simmons last pro games were with the New York Rangers and Buffalo Bisons from 1967 to 1969 before he retired.
