Gordon Arthur "Red" Berenson - Born December 8, 1939 in Regina, Saskatchewan is a Canadian/American retired ice Hockey centre, left winger and coach.

Berenson made his NHL debut with Montreal Canadiens on March 18, 1962 vs Boston Bruins at Boston Garden in a 6-2 Boston win.

Berenson scored his 1st NHL goal vs Hank Bassen of Detroit Red Wings at 6:47 of 3rd period on March 25, 1962 at Detroit Olympia in a 5-2 Montreal win.

Berenson scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Doug Favell of Philadelphia Flyers on November 7, 1968 at The Spectrum in a 8-0 St. Louis win. He had 6 goals in the game.

Berenson played in 987 regular season NHL games, scoring 261 goals (38 GWG), 397 assists with 303 penalty minutes and 85 NHL playoff games, scoring 23 goals (2 GWG), 14 assists with 49 penalty minutes.

As a player, Berenson played for Michigan Wolverines for 3 seasons (1959-1962), being named captain for the 1961-62 season, set team hat tricks record that season with 9, also scoring team record of 43 goals (70 points).

When Berenson played his final game for the Wolverines on March 17, 1962, he left for Boston right after the game to join the Montreal Canadiens for a game vs the Bruins at Boston Garden on March 18, 1962, becoming the very 1st collegiate player to skate immediately into the NHL.

As a coach (1984 to 2017), Berenson led the Wolverines, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 22 consecutive appearances from 1991-2012, which is the longest streak ever in college Hockey.

Berenson finished his collegiate coaching career with an 848-426-92 (.654 winning percentage) record, coached 1,366 games at the University of Michigan.

Gordon "Red" Berenson was inducted into the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 1983.
