Andrew John "Andy" Branigan - Born April 11, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba – Died April 13, 1995 in Providence, Rhode Island was a Canadian/American ice Hockey defenceman, goalie, coach and general manager.

Branigan played junior Hockey for the Winnipeg Monarchs, who were then a New York Americans' farm team, in 1939-40. The following season he turned pro with the Springfield Indians and got into 6 games with the Americans, making his NHL debut on February 25, 1941 vs Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden in a 4-4 OT tie.

Branigan scored his only NHL goal vs Johnny Mowers of Detroit Red Wings at 3:18 of 2nd period on February 28, 1941 at Detroit Olympia in a 5-4 Red Wings win.

In 1941-42 Branigan played 21 games for the renamed Brooklyn Americans and scored two assists. When the team suspended operations in 1942, Branigan's rights were acquired by the Detroit Red Wings in a special dispersal draft.

Branigan returned to Canada during the war years, playing with the Winnipeg RCAF Bombers in 1942-43, 1943-44, and 1944-45, winning the Manitoba senior championship in 1943.

After World War II Branigan returned to the pro ranks to play for the Red Wings' farm team the Indianapolis Capitals in 1945-46. The next season he joined the Hershey Bears for an eight year stay, winning the 1947 Calder Cup Championship. After that he went to the Providence Reds for four seasons (1954 to 1958) winning the Calder Cup championship in 1956.

Branigan finished his playing career in the Eastern Hockey League in 1960 playing for the Washington Presidents and the New York Rovers.

Branigan played in 27 regular season NHL games, scoring 1 goal, 2 assists with 31 penalty minutes. No NHL playoffs.

Branigan also coached the Washington Presidents and the New York Rovers from 1958-1960.

Andy Branigan is a “Honoured Member” of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame
