Uhlenhorst HC ( UHC Hamberg ) are Euro Hockey Champions (EHL) for 2012.
The EHL Championship for 2012 was settled in a Penalty Shoot-Out for the 1st time in Euro Hockey League History. It was also the 200 game in EHL History.
The score was tied 2 to 2 after 80 minutes in the championship game.
Oliver Korn and Mathias Müller were the Penalty Shot Goal Scorers for Uhlenhorster HC, while only Jan Willem Buissant was the only Penalty Shot Scorer for Amsterdam H&BC.
Uhlenhorster HC Goal Keeper Nicolas Jacobi was awarded the Most Valuable Player - MVP of the tournament, and showed why during the championship game. Not only did Jacobi save 4 out of 5 penalty shots, he made several outstanding saves during the game, including a game saver late in the championship game when he made a save from a penalty corner flick to send the game into extra time.
The Euro Hockey League celebrated their 5th season this year, and Uhlenhorster HC has won the championship 3 times. The winners recieved a cheque this year in the amount of 20,000 Euros. Second place Amsterdam H&BC recieved a cheque for 10,000 Euros.
KHC Dragons defeated HC Rotterdam 4-3 in extra time to win the Bronze Medal. It is the first time in EHL history that a Belgian team wins an EHL medal. It is also the first time in EHL history that Rotterdam finish without a medal.
