The Red Wings played a 70 game regular NHL season, winning 37, losing 19 with 14 ties and finished 1st in NHL standings.

The Red Wings were awarded the Prince of Wales Trophy as NHL regular season champions.

Ted Lindsay won the Art Ross Trophy with 78 points (23 goals).

In the 1950 NHL playoffs, Detroit defeated Toronto in semifinals 4-3 in games, the defeated New York Rangers 4-3 in games to win the 1950 Stanley Cup championship.

NOTE
Detroit defeated Toronto in game 7 overtime 1-0 with a goal by Leo Reise, the defeated New York in game 7 double overtime 4-3 with a goal by Pete Babando.
