After playing his junior and senior Hockey with MoDo Hockey in Sweden, Forsberg who was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers, would trade his rights, along with 2 1st round draft picks, 5 players and $15 million cash to Quebec Nordiques for the NHL rights to Eric Lindros.
Forsberg made his NHL debut with the Nordiques on January 21, 1995 vs Philadelphia Flyers at CoreStates Spectrum in a 3-1 Nordiques win. He assisted on the game winner.
Forsberg scored his 1st NHL goal vs Grant Fuhr of Buffalo Sabres at 4:05 of 3rd period on January 21, 1995 at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in a 7-3 Nordiques win.
While playing with Colorado Avalanche, Forsberg scored his 1st NHL hat-trick vs Ron Hextall & EN of Philadelphia Flyers on February 11, 1996 at CoreStates Spectrum in a 5-3 Colorado win.
Forsberg played in 708 regular season NHL games, scoring 249 goals (43 GWG / 4 OTG), 636 assists with 690 penalty minutes and 151 NHL playoff games, scoring 64 goals (14 GWG / 3 OTG), 107 assists with 163 penalty minutes.
