Benedict Francis "Benny" Woit - Born January 7, 1928 in Fort William, Ontario - Died December 7, 2016 in Richmond Hill, Ontario was a Canadian ice Hockey defenceman, right winger and coach.

Woit played his junior Hockey for Port Arthur Flyers, Toronto St. Michael's Majors and Port Arthur West End Bruins, winning championships with Toronto and Port Arthur.

Woit then turned pro with Indianapolis Capitals in 1948, helping them win the Calder Cup in 1950.

Woit made his NHL debut with Detroit Red Wings on February 10, 1951 vs Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 2-1 Red Wings win.

Woit scored his 1st NHL goal vs Sugar Jim Henry of Boston Bruins at 19:33 of 2nd period on November 1, 1951 at Detroit Olympia in a 3-2 Boston win.

Woit played in 334 regular season NHL games, scoring 7 goals, 26 assists with 170 penalty minutes and 41 NHL playoff games, scoring 2 goals, 6 assists with 18 penalty minutes.

Woit played in the 1954 NHL All-Star Game.

After his NHL playing days, Woit played many more years with Rochester Americans, Providence Reds, Clinton Comets and back to his homeland with the Port Arthur Bearcats.

Woit was also the player / coach with Clinton Comets, helping them win the Atlantic City Boardwalk Trophy in 1964. He was also the coach of Westfort (Fort William) Hurricanes for 5 seasons in the Thunder Bay Junior Hockey League.

Benny Woit was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.
