The Rochester Americans played a 80 game regular AHL season, winning 47, losing 26 with 7 overtime losses, finishing first in AHL South Division.
In the 1987 Calder Cup playoffs, Rochester defeated Hershey Bears 4-1 in games, Binghamton Whalers 4-2 in games and in the championship series, they defeated Sherbrooke Canadiens 4-3 in games to win the 1987 Calder Cup championship.
