EditNorman Gerrard "Red" Armstrong - Born October 17, 1938 in Owen Sound, Ontario - Died July 23, 1974 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was a Canadian ice Hockey left/right winger / defenceman.

Armstrong made his debut with Toronto Maple Leafs on December 15, 1962 vs Boston Bruins at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 8-2 Toronto win. He scored his only NHL goal vs Eddie Johnston at 15:18 of 3rd period.
Armstrong played just 7 games for Toronto, scoring 1 goal, 1 assist with 2 penalty minutes.
Armstrong played most of his professional career as a minor-leaguer, starring for the Rochester Americans, where he played 9 seasons. He became their captain during his last season of play in 1972-73.
Norm "Red" Armstrong was inducted into the Rochester Americans / Amerks Hall of Fame in 1986. He was the first player ever to have his jersey retired by the Amerks. His number “6” was hung from the War Memorial rafters at the start of the 1985-86 season.
NOTE
Armstrong is in the NHL record books for the goal he scored, as it was scored during his 1st NHL shift on his very first shot on net in the NHL. It was also the fastest first goal ever scored by a defenseman in the NHL at 25 seconds of his shift. He played just one minute and 31 seconds during the game.
