- Gretzky would play 3 more seasons in Los Angeles, a quick stint with St. Louis Blues and finished his career with 3 seasons with New York Rangers, retiring in 1999.
- This was the 1st major award that Bettman has presented, as he had just become The Commissioner of the NHL on February 1, 1993.
- Bruce McNall, the chairman of the NHL Board of Governors at the time, would soon default on a large bank loan and be forced to sell controlling interest of the Los Angeles Kings in May, 1994, also resigning as chairman.
