Makar was awarded the 2017 Alberta Junior Hockey League MVP and Outstanding Defenceman.
Makar was then awarded the 2017 RBC Cup Top Defenceman and Most Valuable Player, as his Bandits placed 2nd.
Makar was also awarded the Canadian Junior Hockey League / CJHL Most Valuable Player Award 2017 and won the RBC National Junior A Player of the Year Award 2017.

Makar was a 2018 World Junior Ice Hockey Champion with Team Canada.

NOTE
Makar became the first defenceman (7th player) to score a playoff goal in his NHL debut, on April 15, 2019. The goal was scored on his 1st NHL shot on goal at 16:02 of the 1st period vs Mike Smith of Calgary Flames at the Pepsi Center in a 6-2 Colorado win.
