The Canadiens played a 44 game regular NHL season, winning 26, losing 10 with 8 ties, finishing 1st in NHL Canadian Division.

The Canadiens played the Boston Bruins in semi-finals, winning the best of 5 series 3-2, then faced Chicago Black Hawks for the 1931 Stanley Cup championship, a 5 game series. The first 2 games were played at Chicago Stadium, and the 3 other games were played at Montreal Forum.

Montreal won game 1 (2-1), then Chicago won game 2 (2-1) in double OT, also winning game 3 (3-2) in triple OT. Montreal won game 4 (4-2) to tie the series, then shutout the Black Hawks 2-0 in game 5 at Montreal Forum for the Stanley Cup championship.

Howie Morenz led the NHL in scoring with 28 goals, 23 assists in 39 games played. He had 1 goal, 4 assists in 10 playoff games.

Montreal were also the O'Brien Cup champions for 1930-31.
