Another classic Canada vs Russia for the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, this time at the sold out Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, where 19,014 Hockey fans witnessed a shootout for the first 2 periods in a game that would see Team Canada win the championship with a hard fought 5 to 4 victory, and another unforgettable piece of Canada-Russia Hockey history.

Anthony Duclair would open the scoring just 23 seconds into the game. Max Domi feathered a great pass from the corner to Duclair at the top of the faceoff circle, and he ripped the 1st shot of the game over Shestyorkin's glove into the net.

Nick Paul would make it 2-0 on a sensational pass from Brayden Point just 2 minutes later, as he tipped in a long backhand pass from Point. Russian coach Valeri Bragan decided to change goalies at this point, and insert Ilya Sorokin for the remainder of the game.

Dmitri Yudin would close the gap when he stepped into a shot and wired a booming shot off the post and into the net at 9:20, the Russians were back in the game now.

Connor McDavid scored on a breakaway at 5:08 of the second period after taking a long pass from Josh Morrissey and beating Sorokin through the five-hole.

Max Domi scored two minutes later on a long shot, and then at the 12:30 mark of the second period Max Reinhart tipped in a Domi shot from the slot to make it 5 to 1 for Canada, and Domi's 3rd point of the night.

You would think the rout was on now, but the Russians would not give up that easy and kept skating and hitting, then Canada took some questionable penalties, and the Russians would score 3 goals in 3:16 to close the gap to 5 to 4 before the end of the second period. Ivan Barbashev, Sergey Tolchinsky and Nikolai Goldobin putting the rubber in the net for Russia.

Russia started the third period with a 2 minute power play but could not convert. Both teams continued the pace in the third, but a little more careful, with both goalies making big saves, and the Canadian defence holding off any serious chance from the Russian team.

Neither team scored in the third period.
