A wonderful Round 1.2 tournament in Brasschaat came to an end on Sunday, and it was host club KHC Dragons that stole the headlines. An overtime penalty corner from Loick Luypaert sank former EHL finalists H.C. Rotterdam and sent the home fans wild.  

It was not such good news for compatriots Racing Club de Bruxelles, who fell to defeat against Edi Tubau's Club de Campo and therefore missed out on reaching the EHL knock-out stages.  

Amsterdam H&BC and double EHL champions UHC Hamburg were also match winners on the final day of action.  Brief reports of the matches can be found below, with extended reports and video highlights available on www.ehlhockey.tv . 

UHC HAMBURG DEFEAT PLUCKY BANBRIDGE TO WIN POOL F 
UHC Hamburg made it two wins from two in Pool B, but were forced to fight all the way by Irish champions Banbridge. The double Euro Hockey League champions ran out 5-3 winners with Ricardo Nevado, Florian Fuchs, Jonas Fuerste (2) and Kai Gremnitz scoring the goals, with Banbridge netting through Scott Caruth, Bruce McCandless and Stephen Dowds. 
The result means that UHC Hamburg will go through to the KO16 draw as Pool winners, with French champions CA Montrouge also qualifying as runners up. Defeat meant that Banbridge will play no further part in this season’s Euro Hockey League, but the side earned two bonus points over the weekend which could be crucial when the EHL ranking table is re-calculated next week. 

TAEKEMA STRIKES LATE AS AMSTERDAM DOWN READING
Penalty corner star Taeke Taekema scored a late winner for Dutch champions Amsterdam H&BC, giving his team a 2-1 triumph against England’s Reading HC. It was Amsterdam H&BC’s second win of the weekend, ensuring that they took the all important top spot in Pool A. 
Both teams already knew that they had qualified for Easter’s KO16 tournament ahead of the game, but the chance to top the pool and take a top seed into the KO16 draw was at stake. Reading needed victory to take first place, while a draw would have been good enough for the Dutch side thanks to their far superior goal difference. 

LUYPAERT GIVES DRAGONS DRAMATIC VICTORY OVER EHL GIANTS H.C. ROTTERDAM
KHC Dragons added another remarkable chapter to their Euro Hockey League fairy tale today when they scored an over-time penalty corner to defeat European giants H.C. Rotterdam. 
The final score in a pulsating match was 5-4 to the Dragons, an incredible result for a team that had gone into the final quarter both a goal and a player down thanks to a ten minute yellow card suspension given to Jeffrey Thys. However, the Dragons breathed fire in the final three minutes, with Charles Vandeweghe firing in from open play before Loick Luypaert flicked a dramatic penalty corner into the roof of the Rotterdam goal.  It was a goal that sent the huge home crowd into absolute delirium and proved yet again that this Dragons team never knows when it is beaten. 
Luypaert’s strike not only gave Dragons yet another big scalp in the Euro Hockey League, but also means that they take top spot in Pool E. Had Luypaert’s effort missed the target, Rotterdam would have won the Pool and taken the crucial top seeding in the draw for KO16 which would have ensured that they avoided the other pool winners. 

CAMPO REDISCOVER FORM TO COMPLETE KO16 LINE-UP
Madrid’s Club de Campo recovered from Saturday’s defeat against Club an der Alster by fighting their way through to KO16 with a 4-0 triumph over Racing Club de Bruxelles. 
The 2010-2011 Euro Hockey League Silver medallists rediscovered their form to overpower the Racing Rats, a team that were cheered constantly by a large number of supporters who had made the short journey to Antwerp. Sadly, any hope that the fans had of seeing their team reach the second round were killed off thanks to goals from Fabian Magner, Edi Tubau, Jose Borrell and Jorge Rodriguez.  
The result meant that Club de Campo took second place in Pool D, earning them qualification for KO16 behind German champions Der Club an der Alster. Although Racing Club de Bruxelles will play no further part in this season’s competition, their performances here this weekend gained them great respect from their opponents as well as a large number of new fans. 

The complete list of qualifying teams for KO16 is now known. Amsterdam H&BC, Club an der Alster, KHC Dragons and UHC Hamburg were all Pool winners here in Brasschaat, joining fellow table-toppers Uhlenhorst Mulheim, Beeston HC, East Grinstead and HC Bloemendaal.  They will be joined in the KO16 draw by Pool runners up Atletic Terrassa, RC Polo de Barcelona, Dinamo Elektrostal, HC Dinamo Kazan, Reading HC, Club de Campo, H.C. Rotterdam and CA Montrouge. The venue and draw for the KO16 tournament will take place in the coming weeks.
