Conn Smythe was a Lieutenant of the 4th Division, 40th Battery, field artillery and received the Military Cross for his valued part in trench raids during WWI. In WWII, Major Smythe's "Sportsman's Battalion", also known as the 30th Battery of the 7th Toronto Regiment, included many pro sports athletes. Pictured is Conn Smythe’s service decoration, known as the 1914-1918 War Medal, awarded to all allied combatants during the First World War. This "named" example is engraved with his name and rank of second lieutenant along the edge. Also included is the France and Germany Star medal, presented to Smythe for his service during the Second World War
