The stick is carved from a root of Nova Scotia sugar maple, has the initials W.M. for William Moffatt carved on the blade, and had been used by generations of the Moffatt family / Warren C Moffatt (1881-1963) and Thomas A Moffatt (1837-1911) to play shinny on Pottle Lake, near North Sydney, Nova Scotia. The Moffat Stick weighs 1.7 lbs and measures 41 1 /2 inches tip to toe, 34 inches tip to heel and 13 inches along the three-quarter-inch-thick rockered blade
