Peter Shagena and Charles Nolton bought the Los Angeles Sharks from WHA league co-founder Dennis Murphy in the summer of 1974 and moved the team to Detroit, renaming the team the Michigan Stags for the WHA's third season. The Stags played 2/3 of the season in Michigan before moving again, this time to Baltimore, also changing their name to the Baltimore Blades.
The Blades played the final 17 games of the WHA season in Baltimore, and would cease operations in May of 1975.
