The Saginaw Gears played a 82 game regular IHL season, winning 45, losing 29 with 8 ties, finishing first in IHL East Division.
In the 1981 IHL playoffs, Saginaw defeated Port Huron Flags 4-0 in games, Fort Wayne Komets 4-1 in games and Kalamazoo Wings 4-0 in games to win the 1981 Turner Cup championship.
