The Rochester Americans played a 80 game regular AHL season, winning 46, losing 25 with 9 ties, finishing first in AHL South Division.
In the 1983 Calder Cup playoffs, Rochester defeated Binghamton Whalers 4-1 in games, New Haven Nighthawks 4-3 in games and Maine Mariners 4-0 in games to win the 1983 Calder Cup championship.
NOTE
Val James had played 10 games for the Buffalo Sabres in the 1982-83 NHL season, becoming the 1st African-American to play in the NHL.
