The North Stars played a 80 game regular season, winning 27, losing 39 with 14 ties, finishing 3rd in NHL Norris Division and 7th in NHL Campbell Conference.

In the 1991 Stanley Cup playoffs, they defeated Chicago 4-2 in games in Norris Division Semi-Finals, St. Louis 4-2 in games in Norris Division Finals, Edmonton 4-1 in games in Campbell Conference Finals, winning the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl.

The North Stars lost to Pittsburgh in 1991 Stanley Cup finals 4-2 in games.
