The New England Whalers played a 78 game regular WHA season, winning 46, losing 30 with 2 ties finishing 1st in WHA Eastern Division.

The Whalers defeated Ottawa Nationals 4-1 in games in Eastern Division Semifinals, Cleveland Crusaders 4-1 in games in Eastern Division Finals and Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in finals, winning the 1st Avco World Trophy / Avco Cup championship.

The Whalers played in both Boston Arena and Boston Garden.

Tom Webster led the Whalers in goals with 53 and points 103.
Terry Caffery led the Whalers in assists with 61.
Brad Selwood led the Whalers in penalties with 114 minutes.
