EditLester John Thomas "Father" Costello - Born February 16, 1928 in South Porcupine, Ontario - Died December 10, 2002 in Toronto, Ontario was a Canadian ice Hockey left winger and Catholic priest.

Costello made his NHL debut with Toronto Maple Leafs in game 5 of 1948 NHL semi-finals vs Boston Bruins on April 3, 1948 at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 3-2 Toronto win. He also scored his 1st NHL goal vs Frank Brimsek at 16:13 of 1st period.
Costello then played in the finals for Toronto, helping them sweep the Detroit Red Wings in 4 games, winning the 1948 Stanley Cup championship. Costello had, 2 goals, 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes in 5 games played.
Costello would play another 15 games for Toronto the next season before being sent to their farm team in the AHL, the Pittsburgh Hornets.
After the 1949-50 season, Costello retired from playing to pursue seminary studies at St. Augustine's Seminary, and was ordained in 1957.
In 1963, Costello and colleague Brian McKee founded the Flying Fathers, a group of Catholic priests who played exhibition Hockey. Originally intended as a one-time charity event, the Fathers became a phenomenon, regularly touring North America to raise money for charity.
