EditRichard Lewis "Dick" Roberge - Born April 7, 1934 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is a Canadian/American retired ice Hockey right winger, coach and general manager.

Roberge and Johnstown, Pennsylvania are like best friends, as when Roberge first came to Johnstown, he almost never left.
Roberge played for the Johnstown Jets, would become team captain, coach and general manager. He set records there while the Jets were playing in the Eastern Hockey League / EHL. Most games played in regular season EHL history with 1,159. most goals with 737, most assists with 962 and points 1,699.
The Jets had the John Carlin Trophy for team scoring leader, which Roberge won in 1956, 1961, 1965.
In 1970, Roberge became only the second professional Hockey player to score 700 goals.
Dick Roberge was inducted into the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame in 1967.
Roberge's #11 was retired by the Johnstown Chiefs during the 1990-91 season.
NOTE
Roberge had a brief cameo in the movie Slap Shot, which was filmed in Johnstown. He appears in the film as referee Ecker, who throws the Hanson Brothers out of a game.
Roberge is also thought to be the inspiration behind Paul Newman's character, Reggie Dunlop in Slap Shot.
Roberge was coach of the Jets while Slap Shot was being filmed in Johnstown. He coached Dave Hanson, Jeff Carlson, Steve Carlson and Ned Dowd, all famous now because of the movie.
