The Badgers defeated Colorado College, North Dakota and Minnesota Golden Gophers to win the 1983 WCHA tournament, advancing to the 1983 NCAA tournament as the top western seed.
The Badgers then defeated St. Lawrence Saints in a 2 game NCAA quarter-final, winning both games. The Badgers then played Providence Friars in a 1 game semi-final, winning 2-0, putting them in the championship game where they faced Harvard Crimson.
The Badgers were in their 3rd consecutive NCAA championship game, which they won 6-2.
Goalie Marc Behrend was awarded the Tournament MOP for the second time, allowing just 5 goals in 4 games.
4 Badgers players were on the All-Tournament Team with Behrend joined by Chris Chelios, Patrick Flatley and Paul Houck.
Jeff Sauer became the first person to win a championship in his inaugural season as head coach with a new team.
