Grant David "Knobby" Warwick - Born October 11, 1921 in Regina, Saskatchewan – Died September 27, 1999 in Edmonton, Alberta was a Canadian ice Hockey right winger.

Warwick started playing with the hometown team Regina Abbotts in the Southern Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League / SSJHL in 1938, helping the Abbots win the Saskatchewan Junior championship in 1940.

Warwick they moved up to the senior Regina Rangers of the Southern Saskatchewan Hockey League and helped the Rangers win the Allan Cup in 1941.

Warwick was signed by the New York Rangers after they claimed him from the AHL Cleveland Barons in the Inter-League Draft, June 27, 1941.

Warwick made his NHL debut on November 1, 1941 vs the Toronto Maple Leafs, and would score his 1st NHL goal on November 18 against Turk Broda of the Maple Leafs. Warwick would have a outstanding first year in the NHL, scoring 16 goals, 17 assists, and being voted the 1942 Calder Memorial Trophy Winner as NHL rookie of the year. Warwick played almost seven full seasons in New York.

Warwick was selected to play in the very 1st NHL All-Star game October 13, 1947 at Maple Leaf Gardens, scoring 1 goal in a 4-3 victory for the All-Stars vs the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Warwick was traded to the Boston Bruins for Billy Taylor and future considerations (Pentti Lund and Ray Manson, June, 1948), February 6, 1948, playing the final 18 games of the season in Boston, and 5 semi-final playoff games, picking up 3 assists. Warwick played the 1948-49 season for the Bruins , and another 5 semi-final playoff games, scoring 2 goals.

Warwick was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for cash, October 10, 1949, playing 26 games for the Canadiens before he broke his nose and they sent him down to their farm team, the AHL Buffalo Bisons. Warwick played for the Bisons until 1952, never to play another NHL game.

In the Spring of 1952, Warwick was asked to join the Halifax St. Mary's for their playoff run in the Maritime Major Hockey League / MMHL, scoring 1 goal in 5 games.

Warwick then had his amateur status reinstated, and was lured West to Penticton, British Columbia to be the player - coach of the Penticton Vees, a team in the Okanagan Senior Hockey League / OSHL.

Warwick was also united with his 2 brothers (Billy & Dick) in Penticton, and the brothers would help the Vees to OSHL championships in 1953 and 1954. The Vees would also win the 1954 Allan Cup championship, with Warwick scoring 16 goals, 30 assists in 26 playoffs games that spring.

By winning the 1954 Allan Cup, Penticton would represent Canada at the 1955 World Ice Hockey Championships, with Warwick as a player / coach of the team.

The Vees went undefeated in the tournament, blanking the Soviet Union in the final 5-0 for the championship. Warwick scored 6 goals, 11 assists in the tournament, and even decided not to play in the final, as he felt the team needed him more as coach then player.

Warwick, along with his brothers and the Penticton Vees team would return to Canada as heros, and Penticton would throw a party and parade for the team that the city is still proud of today.

Warwick played for the Vees until 1956.

Warwick finished off his playing days with the Trail Smoke Eaters (1956-57) and the Kamloops Chiefs (1957-58).

When Warwick retired from playing, he, along with his brothers, devoted themselves to the restaurant business in Penticton and later in Edmonton, Alberta.

Grant Warwick was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.

Grant Warwick is a Honorary Inductee of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame - 2004.
