Very similar to the first mask ever worn in the NHL by Montreal Maroons goaltender Clint Benedict during the 1929-30 season, this Spalding brown and black affair has leather and very little padding over a thin metal "frame".
The Spalding logo is embossed on the top headstrap from the forehead and at the back are the original laces, that connect to the side cheeks.
Benedict, who donned his to protect a broken nose and cheekbone courtesy of a Howie Morenz blast, soon discarded the leather headgear because it was too obstructive.
