EditAllan Cup Championship Gold Ring - 1918 - George Hiller - Team Captain
Allan Cup Championship Ring awarded to George Hiller, the center for the Kitchener Greenshirts—a 'Senior A' level team in the Ontario Hockey Association. The 1917-18 Kitchener Greenshirts, heralded by some hockey historians as one of the greatest amateur teams of all-time, finished their season with a perfect 10-0-0 record while outscoring their opponents 132 goals to 32.
George Hiller, born in 1896 near Drumbo, Ontario, first played in the OHA in 1913 for the Woodstock juniors. The following season, he joined the Kitchener club and after a brief stint in World War I, returned to Kitchener in time to help the team to its first championship season in 1917-18. In the final Allan Cup series against Winnipeg, Hiller was seriously injured in the first game but heroically returned in time to help Kitchener win 4-1 in the second and final challenge. Hiller was recognized in newspaper accounts as the star of the game.
