EditAntique Gold Medal - New York Athletic Club - Fred Broadfoot 1910
The 1909-10 NYAC Winged Footers hockey team finished first in its league with a 7-1-0 record and each of the players was given individual 14k gold medals produced by Robert Stoll of New York, the official manufacturer of NYAC athletic awards.
Fred Broadfoot played two seasons with the NYAC Winged Footers, winning the championship each year. He also skated with the Regina Military Battalion in the Military Hockey League during World War I. One of Broadfoot's biggest games occurred in the annual match up between the top amateur teams from the United States and Canada. In the 1909 International game between the NYAC Winged Footers and the Montreal Victorias on March 6, Broadfoot scored a key second half goal to help bring the New York team back from a two-goal deficit. The U.S. team went on to win the game 8-6 in a rare victory over one of Canada's elite teams.
