Governor General Georges Vanier - Unveiling the Lord Stanley Statue in Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia on May 19, 1960. Stanley Park had been opened in September, 1888. On October 29, 1889 Lord Stanley while visiting Vancouver, dedicated Stanley Park ‘to the use and enjoyment of peoples of all colours, creeds, and customs, for all time’ - The statue was created by English sculptor Sydney Marsh.
