EditDavid Ian "Dibs" Bell, OAM - Born March 11, 1955 in Melbourne, Australia is a retired field Hockey defender and coach.
- 1976 Summer Olympics Silver Medal Winner with Australia Kookaburras.
- Hockey Champions Trophy Winner 1983, 1984, 1985 with Australia Kookaburras. He also won 4 Silver Medals in 1978, 1981, 1982, 1986 and 2 Bronze Medals in 1980, 1987......9 straight medals.
- 1986 Men's Hockey World Cup Champion with Australia Kookaburras. He also won bronze in 1978 and 1982.
David Bell was Captain of the Kookaburras from 1984-1986.
He earned 186 caps and scored 20 goals.
Bell could perform skills that other players could not and invented skills and plays that were previously unrealized and are emulated today by the best hockey players worldwide.
After retiring from his playing career, Bell turned to coaching, reaching the position of head coach of the Hockeyroos, winning the 2003 Champions Trophy
David Bell was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1987 for his services to Hockey.
David Bell was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2004
