John McGrath - Born June 13 1922 in Hibbing, Minnesota was a American ice Hockey defenceman / forward and coach.

McGrath played junior Hockey with the 1944-45 CUAC Blues, and 1945-46 St. James Orioles.

McGrath then joined the Hibbing Saints of the Northern Hockey League / NorHL for the 1946-47 season.

The Toledo Mercurys signed McGrath for the start of the 1947-48 International Hockey League / IHL season. He would mostly play for the Mercurys until 1953, winning Turner Cup championships in 1948, 1951, and 1952 as IHL champs.

McGrath earned the IHL’s James Gatschene Memorial Trophy in 1951 as the league’s most valuable player / MVP. He also served as captain for the Mercurys.

McGrath also played with the Toledo Buckeyes of the Eastern Hockey League / EHL during the 1949-50 season, scoring 13 goals with 16 assists in 37 games.

McGrath later coached the Auburn Cayugas in 1974-75 season.

John McGrath was inducted into the Toledo Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018
