I am Billy Stubbs, a 38-year-old Chicagoan, 3-time world air hockey champion, and current #1 ranked player in the world. Competitive air hockey is comprised of a small but passionate global body of players, which I am proud to be a part of. In this blog I share my thoughts about air hockey strategy and tactics. I use lots of baseball analogies because air hockey offense is similar to pitching, which is perfect since I am a huge Cubs fan and played baseball through high school. I realize that competitive air hockey is not as popular as soccer, Halo or foosball. So why would I dedicate time – a lot of time – and energy to a sport that is played seriously by only a few hundred people? The answer is simple: I love air hockey. It is a fantastic sport that has been tucked away in the corners of bars and arcades, yet it requires many of the same skills that are necessary for success in most sports: dexterity, strategy, quick reflexes, deception, psychology and hand-eye coordination
