The stick and blade are carved from a root of Nova Scotia sugar maple more than 170 years ago, is more of a chunky Field Hockey or Hurling stick than a long, sleek Ice Hockey stick, has the initials W.M. for William Moffatt carved on the blade, and had been used by generations of the Moffatt family / Warren C Moffatt (1881-1963) and Thomas A Moffatt (1837-1911) to play shinny on Pottle Lake, near North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The Moffatt Stick weighs 1.7 lbs and measures 41 1 /2 inches tip to toe, 34 inches tip to heel and 13 inches along the three-quarter-inch-thick rockered blade
