The 1959 Ice Hockey World Championships were held in Prague, Brno and Ostrava, Czechoslovakia from March 5 to 15.

Team USA played the Soviet Union twice, with game 1 in Brno had the Soviets winning 5-3 on March 7, and game 2 in Prague during the final round on March 9 which the Soviets won 5-1.

The Soviets won the Silver Medal, while Team USA finished in 4th place.

Soviet goalie Nikolai Puchkov would be selected as Best Goaltender at the tournament, while American Bill Cleary was selected as Best Forward.

Team USA would go to win the 1960 Winter Olympics Gold Medal.
