The Vancouver Millionaires finished second overall in the 1921–22 PCHA regular season standings with a 12–12 record. They then went on to defeat the 12–11–1 first place Seattle Metropolitans in the PCHA championship series, winning both games by a score of 1 to 0.
The 1921–22 NHL season was capped with the 13–10–1 second place Toronto St. Patricks defeating the 14–8–2 first place Ottawa Senators, 5 goals to 4, in the two-game total goals NHL championship series.

After defeating the WCHL's Regina Capitals in the preliminary series, the PCHA's Vancouver Millionaires travelled to Toronto for the Stanley Cup Final.

Game 1 on March 17, 1922 had Vancouver winning the opening game 4 to 3.
Game 2 on March 20, 1922 went to overtime, where Babe Dye scored the winner for Toronto in a 2 to 1 victory.
Game 3 on March 23, 1922 was Hugh Lehman's day, as he shut out Toronto 3 to 0.
Game 4 on March 25, 1922 was also a shutout game, but this time it was Rookie Sensation John Ross Roach, who became the 1st rookie goaltender to record a Stanley Cup shutout, in a 6 to 0 Toronto victory.
Game 5, the championship game was played on March 28, 1922, where the home team would win the Stanley Cup Championship, with a score of 5 to 1 for Toronto.

Babe Dye scored 4 goals in the championship game 5, and 9 goals in the series. All 5 games were played at Arena Gardens in Toronto.
