Hockey was a favourite pastime, especially amongst the regiments stationed in Burma.
From the early 20 Century to 1941, there was the "Burma Athletic Association" in Yangon and "Upper Burma Athletic Association " in Mandalay (mændəleɪ/) for sports affairs.
Burma (now officially called the Union of Myanmar) was a province of the Bengal Presidency (an administrative subdivision of British India - 1757–1912).
