Ralph "Scotty" Bowman (June 20, 1911 in Winnipeg, Manitoba – October 17, 1990) was a Canadian Professional Ice Hockey defenceman who played 7 seasons in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Eagles and Detroit Red Wings.

Ralph Bowman Scored the 1st National Hockey League / NHL Penalty Shot Goal November 13, 1934

Bowman was playing for the St. Louis Eagles, and scored the first penalty shot goal in NHL history against Alex Connell of the Montreal Maroons.

The Montreal Maroons would win the game in Overtime 2 to 1.

This was also the 1st NHL career goal for Bowman.

Bowman also became the 1st NHL player to score his 1st NHL goal on a penalty shot.

Bowman was a member of the 1936 and 1937 Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

Ralph Bowman also played for the Indianapolis Capitals, Pittsburgh Hornets, Providence Reds, Philadelphia Rockets, Washington Lions.
